• Establishing a strong working alliance with the clientele being served
• Advanced counseling skills and techniques that promote change

2. Case Conceptualization – To provide the student with clinical instruction experiences that will foster learning in the area of case conceptualization including:

• Understanding client concerns from various theoretical perspectives
• Working with diagnostic frameworks
• Developmental factors to address clinical issues across the lifespan
• Cultural and other subgroup factors that impact treatment interventions

3. Counseling Process – To provide the student with clinical instruction experiences that will foster learning in the area of the counseling process including:

• Elements of the counseling process
• Session planning and longer-term goal setting
• Outcome assessment
• Providing and receiving feedback

4. Personal Growth of the Counselor – To provide the student with clinical instruction experiences that will foster learning in the area of personal growth including:

• Ethical behavior
• Countertransference
• Personal issues that may become obstacles to the therapeutic process
