1. Skill Competency – To provide students with clinical instruction experiences that foster learning in the area of skill competency and practice including:
- Effective communication and clinical intervention skills
- Establishing a strong working alliance with the clientele being served
- Advanced counseling skills and techniques that promote change
- Developing presentation skills to effectively collaborate in a professional setting
2. Case Conceptualization – To provide the student with clinical instruction experiences that will foster learning in the area of case conceptualization including:
- Understanding client concerns from various theoretical perspectives
- Working with diagnostic frameworks
- Developmental factors to address clinical issues across the lifespan
- Cultural and other subgroup factors that impact treatment interventions
3. Counseling Process – To provide the student with clinical instruction experiences that will foster learning in the area of the counseling process including:
- Elements of the counseling process
- Session planning and longer-term goal setting
- Outcome assessment
- Providing and receiving feedback
4. Personal Growth of the Counselor – To provide the student with clinical instruction experiences that will foster learning in the area of personal growth including:
- Ethical behavior
- Countertransference
- Personal issues that may become obstacles to the therapeutic process
- Professional reflection, interests, and readiness
